Coating Services,Surface
Preparation: Metals:
Surface must be free of dirt, grease,
fingerprints, and other foreign matter.
• Oxidation products must be removed.
•
Chemical treatment or conversion coating
gives best adhesion and performance
properties.
• See Metal Preparation Brochure, CCT1.
Iron or Steel: Untreated Metal: Prime

Catalyze six parts POLANE' B
POLYURETHANE ENAMEL to one part POLANE("
Catalyst V66V27 or V66 V 29.
Reduction:
Reduce three parts catalyzed material
with one part of POLANE (" Reducer R7 K
69 (Photo chemically Reactive) or
POLANER, Reducer R7 K 84 Nonphoto
chemically Reactive). For more flow, use
POLANE Retarder R71<216.
Recommended Film Thickness: Wet - 4-5 mils, Dry - 1.0-1.25 mils
Spraying: Apply with standard equipment-
pressure or suction feed, airless or
electrostatic equipment.
Pressure Feed:
Use DeVlbiss MBC gun with Etipand needle
and No. 765 air cap, or equivalent. 8 to
10 psi fluid pressure. Use 40-45 psi
atomizing pressure: Suction Feed:
Use DeVilbiss MBC gun with E tip. needle
and No. 30 air cap or equivalent. 40-45
p.s.i. atomizing pressure. Gloss Adjustments:
Gloss can be lowered by intermixing with
POLANE Flattening Paste F63 T 1. POLANE Gloss Enamel ........ 6 5 4
POLANE Flattening Paste ... 0 1 2
Gloss at 60 degrees (approximately) 90
40 10 Product Limitations:
1. POLANE° B POLYURETHANE ENAMEL
coatings MUST BE CATALYZED at 6:1 ratio.
2. Use POLANE CatalystV66V27forinterior
use. V66 V 27 will lead to early
chalking and gloss loss on exterior
exposure. Use POLANE Catalyst V66 V 29
for exterior exposure applications.
POLANE19 B catalyzed with V66 V 29 is
not intended for long-term exterior
exposure because extended exposure to
strong sun intensity will lead to
chalking, gloss loss and color fading.
3. Do not spray hot. Heat shortens pot
life. Do not pump catalyzed material from drums into
circulating system. Friction heat
developed by pumps and circulation will
shorten pot life. 4. Dip, flo-coat and brushing are not
recommended. 5. DO NOT VARY CATALYST RATIO. The
catalyst ratio has been established for
optimum hardness, flexibility, gloss
and chemical and solvent resistance.
Slight over or under catalyzation will
not seriously affect performance. 6. Because of many types and
compositions of plastic available, each
user should test on his substrate before
production use. Consult your
SHERWIN-WILLIAMS Representative for
additional information. 7. Curing temperature must not exceed
the heat distortion temperature of the
plastic substrate. 8. Protect POLANE Enamels, Catalyst, and
Reducer from moisture as water affects
pot life and properties. Store indoors.
9. Do not package POLANE coated products
in airtight plastic bags unless
completely cured. Since POLANE° Enamels
continue to cure for several weeks, the
buildup of organic solvents and
reaction by-products could cause
improper cure and adhesion failure in
use. 10. Do not blend with any Polyurethane
quality other than POLANE B and POLANE T
No other catalysts, colorants or
reducers are recommended because foreign
materials such as alcohol sand glycols
destroy performance properties. Lacquer
thinners and alcohol containing solvent
blends should not be used with POLANE
enamels. 11 . If recoated after 7 days room
temperature cure, scuff sand to insure
proper inter coat adhesion. 12. Do not
apply to wood substrates for exterior
applications. Note: The information, rating and
opinions stated above pertain to the
material currently offered and represent
the results of tests believed to be
reliable. However, due to variations in
customer handling and methods of
application which are not known or not
under our control, The Sherwin-Williams
Company cannot make any warranties or
guarantees as to the end result. Note. For EMI shielding specifications

Use POLANE Reducer R7 K 69 or R 7 K 84
following supplier’s safety
recommendations.

CHARACTERISTICS SPECIFICATIONS
POLANE T is a two component low gloss
polyurethane coating providing superior
appearance and durability. POLANE
Enamels are used either as smooth or
textured coatings. Advantages: 1. Excellent appearance over many types
of substrates- metal, plastics, and
wood. 2. Air dry or force dry. 3. Excellent chemical and water
resistance. 4. Excellent adhesion, mar, and abrasion
resistance. 5. Excellent hardness and impact
resistance. 6. Widely used for coating of business
machines and computers because of
resistance to stains, chemicals,
abrasion and for long-term durability.
7. Texturing minimizes surface
irregularities and provides
3-Dimensional appearance. 8. Non-photo chemically reactive.
9. Full range of colors may be blended.
10. Lower glosses may be obtained by
using POLANE Flatting Paste, F63 T 1.
11. Versatile uses. In addition to
traditional materials, such as sheet
metal, POLANE T is easily adaptable to
the finishing of newer structural
plastics that cannot tolerate normally
high baking temperatures without
distortion, pin holing or blistering.
Its textured appearance camouflages
imperfections left by production
operations such as grinding marks,
welding seams, and molding. A list of
POLANE T applications would include
products as diverse as computer housing
and burial caskets, measuring
instruments and dental equipment, sewing
machines and snowmobiles medical
equipment ect... Note: The information, rating and
